The design we are trying to do is to use a PR60-21 Digital Pot board with a PR55-22 WiFi Communications board installed. Connected to the XR port we have a PR60-112_XR1630 high power relay board and then the PR60-86_XR165 5 AMPS is connected the the XR Output.
We then have connected to the UXP port of the PR60-21 at UAD1216 Analog to Digital board.
I want to confirm that this is a valid configuration. Is there any special configuration that I need and what should the jumper settings be for the 2 relay boards?
The UP/DOWN jumpers will depend on what you plan to connect to the inputs. A jumper set in the DOWN position for 0-7 will pull inputs 0-7 to ground to allow for an external device to feed in its own 0-5VDC signal while a jumper set in the UP position for 0-7 will pull inputs 0-7 up to 5VDC to allow for the connection of variable resistance sensors/devices or switches. The same logic applies to the 8-15 jumper, but will apply to the 8-15 inputs.
Jacob, Thanks for the info we have figured that out. We are still having issues with communications to the UAD1216 board on the UXP expansion port of the PR60-21 Digital Pot board. We bought two of each and neither of the UAD1216 boards are recognized in the Base Station software. We did try all 3 device IDs with no joy. As a note we did find that one of the PR60-21 Digital Pot boards had all 4 digital pot ICs were bad. We are ordering new ICs. The firmware is 3.11 on the PR60-21 Digital Pot board as reported in the Device identification. Under the UXP Port 1 it is NO. How does that port get enabled?
To control UXP Expansion devices you will need to click the Show All button in the upper right of the command set pane in Base Station when connected in this manner. The option you will need is UXP AD1216 Analog to Digital Conversion Command Set as in this image: https://media.ncd.io/20170721183746/DOC_image111.png
Jacob,
We have tried that but both the boards we have come back reading full scale for all channels even the channels we have selected as pull-down. They don’t seem to be working.
Also what is the configuration necessary to get the NCD Base to communicate over WiFi. We can see the module in Base but when selected the application either closes or does not find any devices… Is there any other settings required in the configuration? We have the proper network and password entered with DHCP.
What is the power supply being used to power the ADC board? Can you send a photo of the board when its reading high?
Base Station only supports connections over TCP on port 2101. If your module isn’t using that connection type Base Station won’t be able to connect.
Additionally it could be a network issue on one side or another. Check the Gateway IP address on the PC and the wifi module as well as the subnet mask for both. If you’re unsure feel free to post this info for both sides and I can confirm if they’re correct. If the IP address is outside of the subnet of the PC, but inside the subnet of the router then it can act like this.
For the ADC board the only power connection is through the ribbon cable from the PR60-21 Digital Pot board which has a 12vdc power connection. Is there a connection that we are missing?
Jacob, We are in desperate mode for getting this system worked out so that we can purchase many more of them. We changed the Ic’s on the Digital Pot board that was not working and the result is the same, all channels power up to mid scale and do not change. The UAD1216 board still does not work. We replaced both of the ics and it still reads full scale for all channels even with the jumpers set to Down.
We are giving up on the WiFi module as we did some testing and we will not be able to get a WiFi signal to the module so we have ordered the Ethernet interface that will arrive tomorrow.
We need to resolve why the UXP port does not see the UAD1216 board and why the D Pot board is not working. Can you please provide some guidance?
I double checked with the design engineer. Apologies, I was unaware of this, but the UXP port cannot be used in conjunction with the Potentiometer. The UXP bus can be used for ADCs or potetentiometers, but not both. Having a master board that is a Potentiometer will still consume that bus in this way so the only compatible expansion for the UXP port on your master would be additional potentiometer boards.
Jacob. Here is our minimum requirements per system. We will need a total of 16 systems.
An Ethernet port for control
3 Digital Pots
6 Analog Inputs
16 Hi Power 30A relays
16 5A Relays
If a Fusion board is used that has 2 module control ports, can you connect Ethernet to one and a WiFi to the second that will bridge to a seperate board that also has a WiFi?
If a Fusion board is used it will have two UXP ports. One UXP port can be used for potentiometers and the other can be used for ADCs.
Fusion boards will be compatible with FXR series boards as opposed to XR series boards used by the ProXR Series.
As for a WiFi module being used in the second slot to bridge two boards to each other. No the Fusion will not work in this manner.
My recommendation would be to replace the UAD1216 expansion board with a ZAD1216PROXR (https://store.ncd.io/product/usb-16-channel-8-bit12-bit-analog-to-digital-converter-xr-expansion-port/). This will necessitate a second communication port separate from the potentiometers and relay controllers, but will be simpler and faster. The ADCs require polling to get their states so having a dedicated communication port for reading input and a dedicated port for controlling outputs can simplify and speed up the read/write logic.
Let me know if you have any questions on the above.
Jacob,
We had already decided that is what we needed to do and have ordered 2 of these analog boards so we do have a design we can work with.
We are still having issues with the WiFi module and getting it setup to work with NCD Base. With the TCP Client enabled, it will identify the hardware but when we try to send commands to either the Relay board or the D Pot board the application hangs. The green heart beat light on the WiFi module freezes. The serial ports are both set to 115200. What else in the configuration is required for NCD Base to communicate using WiFi? With the USB cable / comport everthing works as expected.
With the above configuration I can now talk to the Relay board BUT when I try to make any changes to the DPot board the application hangs. Here is the Identification information
