R448/R507 Leak Detection Sensor

Hello! I am inquiring if a refrigerant leak sensor (measure r448/r507 detection) is something that you have possibly engineered before. We are quite interested in finding a working sensor solution and are willing to pay the R&D fee if needed to procure a refrigerant leak sensor. Please let me know if any options exist. Thank you!

Ryan,

We do build gas sensors, but only when there’s an active requirement. We can approach your project in two ways:

Option 1 — Off-the-shelf RS-485 sensor + NCD wireless bridge

  • Pros: Fastest turnaround; minimal engineering.
  • Cons: Higher per-unit cost. Works fine for a small pilot or handful of units, but gets expensive at volume.

Option 2 — Custom design around a sensing element

  • Pros: Lower unit cost at scale; fully tailored hardware/firmware; better long-term scalability.
  • Cons: Longer development timeline and higher upfront R&D/NRE.

If you need a few units quickly, Option 1 is the fastest path. If you’re planning for larger deployments or tighter integration, Option 2 is the better long-term fit.

Hello Bhaskar, sorry for the late reply - We would most likely want to pilot this as the overall program we’re assisting with is still in a pilot phase. Based on that, I believe Option 1 would suit us best for now and we can always move towards option 2 if we feel its necessary for future designs. Just to verify, do both option 1 & 2 monitor both R488/507?

Yes, we can measure both gas.
