Is the gateway itself supposed to transmit status to the mqtt broker? I have noticed that the only time i receive data from the gateway itself, is when it is first turned on and connected. We have not received any data from the gateway since last powered on about 2 months ago.

The MQTT Gateway only publishes data to the broker upon power up/successful connection as you have stated. It does not do this on interval.
Travis, if it loses WiFi connection, will it publish data when it is reestablished? Or, only when it is powered off and back on?
Currently no, the message is only published on reboot of the device.
