I’ve been using this $200 email generator board for about a year with no issues, but sending the email used to require less secure apps to be enabled in gmail. This option is gone from gmail, and Outlook has removed their version as well. Curious what people are doing to get around that. I could switch to another free (& less secure) email, but I’m hoping there might be an update/workaround at the product level rather than on the email side of the fence.

Hi,
Are you setting up a new Gmail account to use with the email generator? If you’re using an account that already had SMTP setup then it should still work. I know mine does.
I’ll look into this further and see if there is an alternative method to get it working with Gmail.
ThanksTravis.
A long time ago I switched to Microsoft (*@outlook.com) due to Google advertising the coming removal of “less secure apps”. Now microsoft is requiring stronger authentication as well (& the “Contact Closure…” board stopped working on that account). If I were to use gmail at this point, I’d probably want a new email address that keeps the less secure account somewhat sandboxed.

you can create one time pass words for the email generator. they are called app passwords. first setup 2 step verification on the account then you will have the option to setup app passwords, you may have to search for it in the search bar in the google account manager.

Thank you for the comment @jarrett.slater I am seeing the same thing. Gmail still works with SMTP, you just have to use app password and 2 factor auth is required on the account.
Thanks @jarrett.slater & @TravisE_NCD_Technica! I originally saw that too, but didn’t see any option to create one within the account. Found it after searching in the search bar. New account is all setup, and I’ll migrate the email generator to the new password in the next few days.
Great @mcelmurryd please let us know if you need anything.
Hi @TravisE_NCD_Technica - 'fraid I’m not out of the woods. I seem to be having troubles that I somehow avoided in the initial setup. On my computer, I connect to the NCD_Email net, but then I’m unable to connect to 192.168.0.1. VPN & firewall are disabled.
I tried on my android phone with similar results. On the phone I have to click to connect, then I get the API showing but with no fields populated (even though I set this up before). Then it tells me I STILL have to sign in (weird, it’s only that way for this net). When I acknowledge to sign in, for some reason I have to select between “forget network” or “use as is”. Once I select “use as is” the API disappears and I can no longer bring that web page up.
I’m using Chrome and tried both regular and incognito modes.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Dave
Help. I have 6 units that last communicated on Sept 27. Using outlook with the smtp-mail.outlook.com.
It doesn’t appear that the units are able to get in. (I say this cuz there is nothing in the outlook sent mail folder after 9/27)
What do I do to resolve this?
What am I doing wrong that causes no one to answer?
@TravisE_NCD_Technica So just get away from Outlook right? Then go touch all the units I have in place and reprogram? Use Gmail? I’m not as savoy as most. ty
@james.miller you probably also need to setup app passwords. Hopefully you’ll get farther than I did. See Does ms outlook support app passwords - Google Search for starters. cc: @TravisE_NCD_Technica
@james.miller @mcelmurryd have either of you set up an app password for Microsoft mail? I haven’t tried it in a while as pretty much all users are just using gmail and not having problems.
