Who provides the 4-20 mA current loop voltage source

I have a flow meter with 4-20 mA current loop outputs.

I’m trying to understand what type of interface I need. I’m looking at the 4-Channel 4-20 mA Current Loop Receiver 16-Bit ADS1115 I2C Mini Module.

I’m wondering if the interface or the device provides the voltage source? Is the module configurable to be the source or not?

Thanks - John

The ncd product you listed here does provide loop power.

I will recommend this one

How do I know if an interface provides the voltage source? I don’t see any documentation about that.

are you talking about the ncd board or the pressure sensor?

How do I know if the ndc.io board provides or expects the voltage source. I’ll measure the voltage on the device (flow sensor) to see if it is providing a voltage source.

Thanks

  • Onboard 16V Voltage Current Loop Supply

This mentions the voltage supply - but you suggested that this product did not have the voltage source. Also I think the customary voltage for this type of circuit is 24V, but this mentions 16V. Confused.
