Robustel EG5120 Gateway in a Boot Loop

Hello,

I am experiencing a weird behaviour of the Robustel EG5120 NCD Enterprise Gateway.

I had it setup and working fine, just building a flow in Node Red, when all of a sudden it rebooted. Since then, it has been caught in a boot loop - it won’t connect to internet, show a Wireless AP, or allow me to connect via ssh on ETH1 or ETH0.

The Green Status light remains solid for a few minutes when it is booting, and the network ports do flash as if they were communicating. But after a few minutes the gateway reboots.

I tried using the reset button (holding for 3 seconds, 7 seconds and 10-20 seconds) at various times of the boot loop, and it doesn’t seem to be responding. Not sure what is going on or how to break this cycle?

I also tried power cycling without any network cables attached, and still has not been successful.

Thank You.

What is the RUN LED doing while this is happening?

A solid green indicates its booting up and a blinking green indicates its running.

The RUN LED is solid and then never starts blinking until a reboot occurs after a few minutes.

Can you send a photo of the side of the gateway with the Ethernet ports?

Do you have power wires securely connected to the terminals?

Does this still happen if everything except the power is removed from the Gateway?

Photo attached.

Yes power wires are secured.

Yes, I removed the USB Key, and ethernet cable, and tried rebooting/reseting without any success.

Unfortunately I’m not sure what could be causing this issue. Was that USB drive blank when it was connected to the device or is it another type of USB device?

You could try a manual factory reset, but whether it will take or not while the gateway is in this boot cycle is hard to say as I’ve yet to encounter this.

To manually factory reset the gateway:

  1. Remove Ethernet and USB devices from the gateway
  2. Power on the gateway
  3. after a couple of seconds press and hold the RST button for 5 ~10 seconds
  4. You should see the RUN light flash at a rapid pace
  5. Release the RST button and it should try and factory reset

In my experience a successful factory reset takes about 2-3 minutes before you can access node-red again.

Unfortunately this will delete your node-red flows and revert any changes to node-red or the network configurations you’ve made.

If that doesn’t work I’d have to recommend an RMA: NCD Login - NCD.io

The USB is new and blank and was working for the whole day I plugged it in prior to this issue.

I have already tried doing these manual resets according to Robustels EG5120 manual, and the device is not responsive to any of this.

It may be that we need to do an RMA. I will try again today, and then submit an RMA if not successful. Thank You.
