Question about PR20-4 MCP23017 16-Channel 8W 12V FET Solenoid Driver Valve Controller with I2C Interface

I am trying to decide if the PR20-4 MCP23017 16-Channel 8W 12V FET Solenoid Driver Valve Controller with I2C Interface will fit my application. I need to drive 16 12 Volts control lines that have one common ground (a 2x8 Antenna switch). These lines will drive 12 Volt relays, two on each line. Can I connect all the - pins to one common wire (that seems to be grounded the the chassis of the device I need to control) and use the + pin to supply the 12 volts?

Hi Tom,
This board wont work in your case because this one is a low side driver. which means it will only switch the low side.
I will recommend using a relay board.


this relay board will be an ideal chice for your applications.
on the relay board you can connect all the COM to 12V and “NO” to respective 12V relays.
