I’ve got a ProXR 24-channel relay (Serial #72718433). I’ve had it for a while and am just installing it and am noticing the following behavior:
Using the NCD Basestation Software (Version 4.0.8) I can turn on all the relays on and off one at a time. However, if I turn on an entire bank (8 relays) and then try to turn on all relays in a second bank, then ALL the relays click off. After experimenting, I’ve discovered that I can turn on any 15 relays without issue, but when I click on the 16th relay, they all go off and NCD Basestation software looses communication with the board.
It is not a BaseStation issue, because the exact same problem occurs with my own software that uses the NCD component library (via a Visual Studio interface).
The firmware on the ProXR is version 3.11. I can’t seem to find where the current firmware downloads lurk, or even if 3.11 is the most current version.
Have you encountered this problem before, and is there any solution? Thanks.
Hi,
That sounds like the power supply is not providing sufficient current to energize more than 15 relays at a time. Are you using a power supply we provided? If not what is the voltage and amperage ratings on the power supply you are using?
I’m pretty sure its the one that was shipped with the board. The brand name is BestEC. Its a 12V, 0.5amp adapter. I’ll look around to see if I have a 12V 1 amp adapter. What is the rating of the one you typically supply for a 24 relay board?
Travis,
I had a 12VDC 3amp adapter laying around and plugged that in. Now the board works fine with all relays turned on. Thanks for the lead.
No problem. If you have any other questions please let us know.
Thank you,
Travis Elliott
I’ll use the 3 amp adapter, but for the record, can you tell me:
- What is the recommended amperage for the 24 relay (non-solid state) ProXR board?
- What is the current firmware level for the ProXR series?
- Where is the firmware available for download?
Thanks!
Thanks for the info.
