Anybody know of a good reason for a slow rise in temperature from 70f → 100f then a huge -300f degree shift in temperature with a constant battery voltage. No change in humidity.

It sounds like the sensor will require repair. This is not normal behavior. I would recommend sending the device in for repair. To do this you can fill in the RMA form here:
