Multiple MPU6050 with raspberry pi 4

I’m trying to set-up 16 MPU6050 acceleration sensors with a raspberry pi 4.
It is highly important to have a sample rate as high as possible, in order to analyse my high frequency data.
When using multiple sensors in parallel directly on the I2C connectors of the Rpi I notice a steep drop in sample rate. (linearly)
I’m trying to figure out if a Nodelynk system is a good solution for me. In the description of the product it says it allows a I2C connection per sensor, but when is look at pictures it looks like the modules are connected in series.

Am I misunderstanding something?
