External power for Vibration/Temperature Sensor

Purchased unit with external power supply option. It works with batteries installed. Do the batteries need to be installed when external power is applied to work?

No, if you move the switch to external power(away from the wall of the enclosure) batteries do not have to be installed.

That does not appear to work either. Any voltage min level?

If I’m not mistaken it should run all the way down to 5VDC. Did you flip the switch inside? Any way you can provide a photo with the sensor lid open?

Looks like it works when I increase voltage to >=12VDC but less than 13VDC

@Bhaskar can you comment on this?

I started voltage @ 4VDC and increased until it showed up in Alpha Station. One node required 12.5VDC and the other ~12VDC.

I am using a 3 A buck xformer.

  • Mini MP1584EN DC to DC buck converter module with a wide operating range
  • Input voltage: 4.5 V to 28 V; Output voltage: 0.8 V to 20 V
  • Output current: 3 A (maximum); Conversion efficiency: 92% (maximum)
  • Output ripple: less than 30 mV; Switching frequency: 1.5 MHz (highest), typically 1 MHz
